About the Dr. Ho’s Family
Dr. Ho’s was established in 1998 by original owners Jerry Danner (Dr. Ho) and Ian Wren. The restaurant was sold in summer of 2007 to Michael and Nancy McCarthy. We take great pride in handcrafting everything that goes into your food. At Dr. Ho’s, there is no short cut to good pizza. Our homemade dough is hand tossed and topped with the freshest ingredients we can source from local farms to provide you with what we hope you will find to be the best pizza around. Everything on our menu is made on premises from scratch by our dedicated kitchen staff. Our mission at Dr. Ho’s has always been to take pride in our craft. Creatively prepared honest food and gracious service is our philosophy. At the present time, we use products from the following local sources: Belair Farm, Thomas Dairy Farm, Highland Farm, Double H Farm, Caromont Farm, Steadfast Farm, Turner Family Country Hams, Vintage Virginia Apples, Wade’s Mill, Blue Mountain Brewery, Starr Hill Brewery, Lovingston Winery, White Hall Vineyards, Devils Backbone Brewing Company
We happened to cruise into the town of Fulks Run, in northwestern Virginia, on what devotees know as Fried Ham Friday. What luck! One day each week, the big table at the back of Fulks Run Grocery , a small provisions store, is cleared so that people can sit down and eat sandwiches at what normally serves as the ham shipping department for Turner Ham House.
It's hard to contain our excitement on the drive to Michael McCarthy's home in Afton, a half mile from the Nelson County line. We imagine that the man who's owned Dr. Ho's Humble Pie for just over five years might have some dough up his sleeve; because there's something eminently craveable about pizza (even at 10 o'clock in the morning), especially when it comes from Dr. Ho's.

Dr. Ho's Humble Pie won this year's CURED Central Virginia Bacon Festival. The restaurant won with three bacon-inspired dishes: a bacon-inspired strudel, a bacon-inspired salad and a maple bacon doughnut. Fourteen restaurants competed in the festival, trying to win over the crowd with their bacon creations.
